  1. Last Call for Heating Help: Application Deadline Is March 31

    Help with heating bills is available through Mecklenburg County’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). The deadline for eligible households to apply is March 31. LIEAP is one of several programs that help low-income households with their immediate energy needs, so they do not need to choose between heating their homes and other basic needs. Applicants must meet income guidelines, be responsible for the bill, provide their account number, and show proof of income. 

  2. New Families, New Beginnings: Mecklenburg County to Celebrate National Adoption Day

    The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners has proclaimed November as National Adoption Awareness Month. On Saturday, Nov. 18, Mecklenburg County and N.C. Courts will celebrate National Adoption Day with recently adopted children and their families. Thirty-four youth who have received decrees between October 2022 and October 2023 will be recognized.

  3. Crawl, Walk, Run: “Prenatal to 3” Plan Addresses Early Childhood Development

    A child’s health and well-being during the first three years of life affects future learning, behavior, and health. It is the most sensitive period for a child’s developing brain and body. But many families face challenges during these years. Consistent with the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners’ priority to expand services that promote early childhood development, the County has introduced the Prenatal to Three Strategic Plan which works to improve the trajectory of child and family well-being in those early years.

  4. Keeping Cool: Facilities and Resources Available to Help Residents

    As summer temperatures continue to rise into the 90s, Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office (CMEMO), and homeless service providers are working together to support the needs of the community.

  5. Write a Happy Ending: Provider Needed for Young Adults in Extended Foster Care

    Mecklenburg County is searching for a provider to house young adults ages 18 to 21 who have aged out of foster care and teach them the skills they need to navigate a modern world.
