Services for Children

Social work and resources to assist children. 

  • Adoption and Foster Care

    Assists children cleared for adoption with finding temporary placement within approved foster homes or permanent homes.  

  • Child Care Services

    Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services, in partnership with Child Care Resources Inc. (CCRI), provides subsidized child care for working families, families engaged in workforce preparedness training, and families engaged with other Mecklenburg County support services. 

  • Child Protective Services

    Child Protective Services is legally mandated for children alleged to be abused, neglected, and/or dependent, and who are at imminent risk of harm due to actions by the child’s parent or caretaker.

  • Community Social Work

    Provides social work and case management assistance for adults, seniors and disabled citizens who fall outside of protective services and public assistance services.

  • Kinship Care

    A family caregiver support program for any older relative raising younger children such as grandparents raising their grandchildren. 

  • MECK Pre-K

    MECK Pre-K is high-quality, free pre-k education for eligible four-year-old children in Mecklenburg County. Classes are taught by licensed teachers and highly qualified teacher assistants. 

  • Mecklenburg Transportation System

    Provides coordinated non-emergency medical and general public transportation to eligible residents in Mecklenburg County.
