Adoption assistance begins the month following the issuance of the decree of adoption or when problems appear with a high-risk child with no problems at the time of adoption.
A child can receive adoption assistance until he/she is 18 years old or is no longer in the legal care of his/her adoptive parents.
Cash payments and/or vendor payments can be initiated by the adoption committee when the parent sends a statement of the issue with identifying documentation by the child’s doctor, therapist, or approved professional.
Yes. But Mecklenburg County may negotiate with the parents for a reduced amount. The adoption assistance payment will be reduced equivalent of the social security income.

If the child is not IV-E eligible, Medicaid will be continued if the state where the child moves is participating in the Interstate Compact on Adoptions and Medical Assistance (ICAMA) program.
They have a right to appeal to North Carolina to appeals to settle any disputes.
